The State Department has cut $1.8 billion in spending during President Donald Trump’s first year in office during the president’s second term.

Marking the end of the first years, the State Department, being headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the savings have come from the categories of professional services, the Bureau of Diplomatic Technology, and transportation and logistics, according to the Daily Caller.

“The Trump administration works tirelessly to serve the American people as efficiently and effectively as possible,” spokesman Tommy Pigott said. “That’s why the State Department secured more than $1.8 billion in savings for the American taxpayer through these cost cutting measures, all while ensuring we are safer, stronger, and more prosperous than ever. Better results at a lower cost — that’s what happens when you put America first.”

According to the report, professional services expenditures dropped by 24.6 percent, from 2024 to 2025 which saved around $850 million in taxpayer funds. During that same time frame, $554 million was saved with the use of transportation as well as logistics services, a decline in 33.7 percent of costs.

Contracts during the same time frame decreased from $1.109 billion to $700 million and the Bureau of Diplomatic Technology cut costs by $410 million.

The Trump administration has been focusing on cutting “waste, fraud, and abuse” throughout the federal government, with the message being key to the mission of DOGE, an effort pushed by Elon Musk.

DOGE efforts have been tallied up to have saved the $215 billion since the entity was put into motion. The Trump administration has said that DOGE as an entity will continue to cut waste fraud, and abuse, and will continue its mission until May 2026.
