"If you move the third world to the first world, eventually we become the third world, and that's not good for us. It's not good for anybody who wants to live here in the future."
"At the end of the day, what this really comes down to is this Jesse: who lives in your country, determines what your country is, right? Haiti doesn't work as a country. It just doesn't. People have tried forever. People spent billions of dollars trying to make Haiti work as a project. Haiti doesn't work," said Miller.
"If you take Haiti and you move it to America, it's not going to work here. Somalia doesn't work as a country, has never worked as a country. You take Somalia out of Somalia, you put it here, it's not going to work any better. It's not about how you feel about an individual immigrant. It's about the policy at a systemic scale. If you move the third world to the first world, eventually we become the third world, and that's not good for us. It's not good for anybody who wants to live here in the future."
This comes as the Trump administration has taken numerous steps in his first year back in office to curb illegal immigration and the open border policies of his predecessor. This includes widespread use of ICE across the country, which has been a target by Democrats.
Under the Biden administration, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was extended for Haitians. TPS was first granted to Haitians after the massive 2010 earthquake, but the Biden administration extended it due to civil unrest in the country. The Department of Homeland Security announced in February that it was ending TPS status for Haitians, with 520,000 Haitians benefiting from TPS at that point in time.

Well yes & if you stop bombing & sanctioning the 3rd world countries & funding groups that attempt to carry out coups against their governments & attack civilians, their population won't need to leave their own homes, where they would obviously much rather remain. Do you think bombing Venezuela will decrease immigration? Do TPM writers have no understanding of blowback? No, who lives in our country does not determine what our country is; who pays for our politicians determines what our country is & actually does both at home & around the world.
