While the topic of underage transitioning becomes more and more a part of our national dialogue, it seems as if the use of hormone replacement therapy by teens isn’t just elective in at least one instance. According to a new lawsuit in Los Angeles, a 16-year-old boy in a juvenile detention facility was forcibly given estrogen as treatment for ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). As a consequence, his body feminized to the point where he had grown actual breasts.

Doctors David Oh and Danny Wang are the doctors being sued in this horrific case. After the teenage boy was diagnosed with his behavioral disorder in June 2019, he allegedly tested positive for “elevated levels of testosterone”, which may have sparked the doctors decision to combat it with estrogen. This is a terrible abuse of power, however, as this is not a commonplace treatment. In fact, there is no real precedent for it unless the teen is actually transgender, and unless it’s completely elective.

There were allegedly 30 doses of estrogen prescribed to the young man, and 13 doses were successfully administered to him. The young man’s parents were apparently unaware of these treatments. Shockingly, even the teen was unaware of exactly what medication he was being given. According to the lawsuit, he attempted to refuse the treatment at one time after feeling “increasingly terrible, miserable, and ill”. He also developed gynecomastia, which is enlarged breast tissue. In the lawsuit, this scenario is described as “human experimentation.”

It must be clear that estrogen, or any type of hormone treatment for that matter, is not a treatment for ODD. There is no evidence or precedent that it alters behavior in a positive way, and it is gross malpractice to inflict gender transition on an unwilling participant.

As a trans woman myself, it is horrifying to see the treatment that so deeply benefited my life being used in such a sick, experimental manner. Not only does it potentially permanently affect this teenage boy’s life, but it further damages the credibility of medical transition, which is already controversial among some people. Based on the information we currently have, I hope this victim wins his lawsuit and is able to move on in peace.
