Elon Musk applauded the segment.
On a recent episode of The Daily Show, guest host Charlamagne tha God tackled the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, where he agreed that DEI is “mostly garbage.”
During the segment, Charlamagne showcased a series of advertisements from companies touting their commitment to diversity, despite their products having no apparent connection to such issues. This prompted him to question the authenticity and effectiveness of these corporate DEI efforts.
"The truth about DEI is that although it's well-intentioned, it's mostly garbage,” Charlamagne said.
“Every one of you has sat through one of those diversity trainings and thought, ‘this is some bullsh*t,’” Charlamagne joked to the audience.
Charlamagne went on to claim that over 900 studies have shown that DEI programs do not make the workplace better for racial minorities and could potentially exacerbate existing tensions.
Charlemagne rightfully pointed out that DEI programs are mostly just "corporate PR" for large companies seeking to protect themselves from Civil Rights litigation.
"We don't need corporate DEI," Charlemagne explained. "Yes, we want diversity and equity and inclusion, but we don't want it from Vaseline."
X owner Elon Musk applauded the segment, writing on the social media platform "Daily Show" along with the raising hands emoji usually used to express celebration.
The agreement by Charlamagne that DEI has been ineffective and causes more problems came after he mocked conservative voices on Fox News and Florida Governor Ron Desnatis for their criticisms of DEI initiatives.
Despite his criticism of DEI, Charlamagne seemed to take aim at conservative voices who share similar concerns. He accused them of racism for their opposition to DEI efforts, suggesting that their resistance is indicative of progress being made in advancing diversity and inclusion agendas.
"Keep an eye on right-wing media. The more they’re freaking out, the more progress we’re making," Charlamagne remarked.
