Canada is not as corruption-free as we might like to believe. Major corruption scandals, kickback schemes, and abuses of power may be less frequent in developed democracies, but no country is ever free from corruption.
The number of major scandals in Canadian politics is still relatively low compared to other nations. Yet, Canada has been rocked by major corruption scandals throughout its history. The first of these scandals, and possibly the worst, happened during the tenure of our very first Prime Minister, John A. Macdonald.
Major political scandals are far from thing of the past and the number of 'minor' scandals has only increased in recent years.
