A violent incident yesterday afternoon involving firearms at a cemetery in Brampton left three people injured, two of them seriously.

The incident happened just before 4 pm yesterday, when people heard gunshots at the cemetery in Bovaird Drive in Brampton, according to CP24.

A group of people had gathered, possibly to pay respects to someone close to them who was buried there (there was no funeral scheduled at the time) when multiple assailants arrived, firing at them and scattering the crowd.

Witnesses saw a Mercedes and a light-coloured Honda pull up to the scene and several gunmen start shooting.

Some of the people being shot at returned fire, and at one point, according to witnesses, there were six or seven people shooting at each other.

One victim walked into Brampton Civic Hospital and was treated for his wounds and is now in stable condition. Another made it to a nearby porch and collapsed, and people called 911. A third got in a car and was dropped off at a fire station where paramedics then transported him to the nearest hospital.

The last two above mentioned are considered to be in critical condition and are not stable yet.

Violence is up all over Ontario this year, but Brampton seems particularly affected by the increase in violent incidents.

Police are currently still investigating this crime, and individuals with any relevant information are encouraged to call the Brampton Police or Crime Stoppers.
