York Regional Police have charged a Toronto man after conducting a human trafficking investigation. Sam Park, a 31-year-old from Toronto, has been charged with trafficking in persons and material benefit from trafficking, CP24 reports.

The suspect was originally taken into custody on August 11, 2020 for the charges.

"In many cases, victims are forced into the sex trade through violence, threats of violence, coercion and trickery," police said in a news release issued on Thursday.

Police said their investigation began in January after they received a lead into a potential human trafficking operation after learning about a victim who had been forced into the sex trade.

Police are asking any victims or persons with information to step forward as investigations are still ongoing.

In their press release, police also added that if you had any information to report you can use the hotline operated by the Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking, a national charity dedicated to ending all types of human trafficking in Canada.
