A fatal stabbing in Toronto’s Regent Park Wednesday morning left one man dead and another in custody.

Local law enforcement was called to Gerrard and River streets on reports of a knife-wielding person in the area around 2:30 am, according to CP24. They arrested the suspect at the scene without prior incident.

Police said an altercation broke out and the victim at the time suffered from traumatic injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead. The victim showed no vital signs when discovered by police.

Several police officers and the forensic unit collected evidence in the surrounding area following the arrest. The area was blocked by traffic and streetcars were diverted for hours.

The name and age of the victim have not been released. Police have not said what charges the suspect faces.
