Turning Point USA is set to hold a "No Forced Masks Rally" in Illinois on Wednesday night to protest school districts that continue to enforce mask mandates despite Illinois have made masking in school optional.
On Tuesday, "the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) voted against extending the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) emergency rule on school mask mandates," reported local news. The rally can be live streamed here:
"IDPH's move to reissue the emergency rule would have required school districts to enforce Governor JB Pritzker's school mask mandate despite a recent court ruling on the matter," they wrote. Chicago schools continue to enforce masking despite the order.
On Wednesday, Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk will take the stage at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois to host a rally in support of high-school students opposed to mask mandates. The event at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Ill., is free, but registration is required.
Along with Kirk, the rally will include remarks from local TPUSA chapter leaders Leslie Mendoza, Peter Christos, and Samuel Phillips, as well as student activists.
On February 4, a lawsuit by a group of parents and students representing over 100 school districts was successful in achieving a temporary restraining order against Pritzker's mandate.
Following the decision, the Illinois Department of Public Health attempted to reissue an emergency rule to force school districts to keep the mandates in place.
"In his quest for power and control, Pritzker and his administration was willing to further the chaos and confusion for schools throughout the state," state Sen. Sue Rezin said following the decision. "With this bipartisan vote, I hope that the Governor finally recognizes that his go-it-alone tactic is not in the best interest of our state or its people."
Masking will now be up to each individual school district.
