Trudeau giving away $485 million more in foreign aid is a slap in the face to Indigenous communities still lacking clean drinking water

Trudeau and the Liberals should be ashamed of their betrayal of Indigenous Canadians.

How many times have we thought about how there always seems to be taxpayer money for foreign countries, yet Canadians so often go without?

But every time it seems we’ve said it enough, it happens again.

Yesterday, we learned that the Trudeau Liberals are giving $485 million more in foreign aid, to a WHO program ostensibly about giving money to poorer countries to develop vaccines.

Notably, the Liberals have already given about $400 million to that program, through previously-announced foreign aid spending, with this $485 million being new money on top of that.

And there’s a big reason this is such a disgrace.

As you are probably remembering, it was only about a week or so ago that the Liberals announced they would be breaking their promise to end boil water advisories in Indigenous communities.

The promise has been pushed back, and there is no reason to trust the Liberals on any new "deadline." The reason they can’t be trusted is that they have repeatedly shown their priorities don’t include actually helping the Canadian People.

Announcing nearly half a billion more in foreign aid spending after breaking the boil water advisory promise is a massive slap in the face to Indigenous communities in Canada.

Imagine how people are feeling.

Imagine being at your home, having lacked safe drinking water for years, being told by the government that it would be fixed, only to see that promise being broken, and then watching that same government announcing huge new amounts of money going outside of our country.

This cannot be justified or defended.

The job of the Canadian government is to ensure that our tax dollars go towards taking care of our own citizens.

And right now, we have many of our own citizens who lack some of the most basic things in the world, lacking necessities like clean drinking water. It is truly appalling.

We have a government that sees itself as some sort of international saviour, always there to grab attention and try to fix some massive world problem, yet when there are easily solvable problems here at home, problems that impact the lives of people living and suffering within our own country, the Liberals can’t get it done.

This is why, as I’ve said before and will say over and over again, we cannot justify giving all this foreign aid when problems in Canada are going unsolved.

Trudeau and the Liberals should be ashamed of their betrayal of Indigenous Canadians.
