While the statement did not detail the specifics which led to Sangha's dismissal, it comes two days after Sangha was accused of making false allegations against departed Innovation, Science, and Industry Minister Navdeep Bains.

A Member of Parliament has been expelled from the Liberal Party caucus after allegedly levelling "baseless and dangerous accusations" against other MPs.

Ramesh Sangha, 75, has represented Brampton Centre since his election in 2015. "As of this afternoon, Mr. Sangha has been removed from the Liberal caucus," wrote the Chief Government Whip.

"[We] will not tolerate conspiracy theories, or dangerous and unfounded rhetoric about Parliamentarians or other Canadians," the statement reads. "Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for many Canadians to experience suspicions because of their background."

"The Liberal Caucus continues to stand firm against racism and intolerance," it finishes.

While the statement did not detail the specifics which led to Sangha's dismissal, it comes two days after Sangha was accused of making false allegations against departed Innovation, Science, and Industry Minister Navdeep Bains. Bains abruptly announced last week that he was stepping down from the role to spend more time with his family.

Sangha said that he "wasn't that astonished" by Bains's departure, but that the provided reason "didn't make sense." He further suggested that Bains has links to "extremism," a talking point that has often been repeated in the Indian press.

"When I think back, someone who says I am extremist and I am Khalistani and I declare these things, is he fit to be a minister?" Sangha questioned. "I said before he wasn't."

Bains has previously described such accusations as "disinformation." Conservative Senator Linda Frum once repeated such claims which she read in an Indian news article, later apologizing to Bains for her comments, an apology which Bains accepted.

There is no evidence linking Bains to Sikh extremism.
