President Donald Trump said Sunday that he was "ashamed" to have endorsed Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Trump's comments were made in light of what he says is a lack of appropriate response from Kemp to allegations of election fraud in Georgia.
President Trump has criticized the use of Dominion Voting devices in Georgia, blaming Kemp for not acting to correct alleged voter fraud that he claims took place in the state.
"The governor’s done nothing. He’s done absolutely nothing," Trump said in his first interview since the election with Fox News's Maria Bartiromo.
"I’m ashamed that I endorsed him. But I look what’s going on. It's so terrible," he added.
Kemp signed off last week on Georgia's certification of the election results in Biden's favor, the Hill reports.
President Trump's expressed contention with Kemp comes only weeks before two critical US Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Senators David Perdue (R-Ga.) and Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) are running against Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, a race which some in the GOP are concerned will be effected by Trump's comments regarding Kemp and Georgia.
