“Andrew is fighting for his life. And his parents are unbelievably great people, highly religious people, and they're praying."
President Donald Trump said Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe remains in critical condition after being shot in Washington, DC last week, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that Wolfe is “fighting for his life.”
Trump said he spoke with Wolfe’s family and described his parents as “devastated.”
“Andrew is fighting for his life. And his parents are unbelievably great people, highly religious people, and they're praying,” Trump said. He added that Wolfe’s parents were “positive.”
Trump also spoke with the parents of Sarah Beckstrom, the other National Guard member who was shot and killed. He said her parents were “devastated” and that they “can’t even believe it” that their daughter died.
Wolfe’s family has continued asking the public for prayers as he remains in critical condition with no new updates.
Wolfe entered the service in 2019 and was assigned to the Force Support Squadron, 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard. West Virginia Rep. Riley Moore said Wolfe was inspired to join the Guard to follow his father’s path, as his father works for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
“His father is a deputy sheriff in the county next to mine and Andy wanted to follow in that footsteps and serve his nation as a National Guardsman,” Moore told Fox News.
Both Wolfe and Beckstrom were shot in a targeted attack last week after being deployed to Washington, DC, as part of the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce crime in the city. The alleged shooter, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was apprehended. Lakanwal is an Afghan migrant who came into the country during the Biden administration.
