President Donald Trump slammed former President Joe Biden in a Truth Social post on Thursday for keeping the Ukraine war going with "no chance of winning" since Russia invaded their neighbor in February 2022. The US provided weapons, but also conditions on their use.

"It is very hard, if not impossible, to win a war without attacking an invaders country," Trump said. "It’s like a great team in sports that has a fantastic defense, but is not allowed to play offense. There is no chance of winning! It is like that with Ukraine and Russia. Crooked and grossly incompetent Joe Biden would not let Ukraine FIGHT BACK, only DEFEND. How did that work out? Regardless, this is a war that would have NEVER happened if I were President - ZERO CHANCE. Interesting times ahead!!! President DJT"

As soon as Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Biden backed Ukraine but had conditions on US involvement, primarily that weapons were to be used for defense and not aggression. He provided weapons but did not allow Ukraine to use them to fire into Russia. There were limitations on what Ukraine was allowed to do with US weapons. Russian President Vladimir Putin also gave indications of what actions taken with US weapons by Ukraine would be considered an act of war by the US against Russia and Biden did not cross that line.

Putin has said that the war would not have begun had Trump been in office in 2022 instead of Biden. Trump has also said this. The Biden administration had been indicating that the alliance between Ukraine, Europe and the US could be strengthened by Ukraine joining NATO, which was a line too far for Putin.

Since taking office, Trump has been trying to bring both presidents to the table to bring peace to the region. Nearly a week ago, he met with Putin in Alaska. On Monday, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, along with several European leaders at the White House. Trump is urging both leaders to come together and agree to terms.

Trump has said that no US boots would be on the ground in Ukraine as part of security guarantees to keep Russian forces at bay. He's also said that Ukraine will have to cede some land that they lost to Russia so far in the war and that the border nation will not be permitted to join NATO.
