Biden is struggling with support from many independent voters who previously supported him.
Former President Donald Trump is enjoying a commanding lead over President Joe Biden in Georgia, a new poll by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reveals.
Trump is beating out Biden 45 percent to 37 percent, according to the AJC poll that featured 1,007 registered Georgia voters.
The poll, which has a reported margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent, found that Biden is struggling to capture support from many Democrat and independent voters who were key to his narrow win in the Peach State in 2020, including 10 percent of black voters, who say they plan to sit out of the election entirely.
Approximately 62% of registered voters regard Biden's job performance to be negative, and a majority say they “strongly disapprove” of the Democrat.
It gets worse among independents, with only 37 percent rating Biden positively for his performance and 54 percent indicating they disapprove.
These strong numbers for the former president come after an NBC poll in November found that more young people than ever before are supporting Trump than they are Biden.
The survey found that 46 percent of respondents aged 18 to 34 said they would vote for Trump, while a smaller 42 percent reported supporting Biden.
Trump topped Biden that same month in a different poll from CNN, which found that the former president holds a 4-point lead over Biden in a hypothetical 2024 election matchup, at 49-45.
