During the National Guard Association of the United States' 146th General Conference in Detroit, Michigan, the GOP nominee committed that he would continue his work with defense in space that he started in his first term with Space Force and would sign legislation to create the Space National Guard.
"One of my proudest achievements of my first term was to create Space Force, the first new branch of the armed forces in over 70 years, that's a big deal," Trump said to those present. "Now that Space Force is up and running, I agree with your leadership that the time has come to create a Space National Guard as the primary combat reserve of the US Space Force."
"As president, I will sign historic legislation creating a Space National Guard into law," the GOP nominee added in his speech. He went on to say that he had spoken to Marco Rubio about the prospect of a Space National Guard and the Republican Senator from Florida loved the idea.
Trump added that Space Force has been important since its creation. As more technology has become reliant on satellites as well as other space-bound technology, Trump announced the creation of the force in late 2019. Space Force is dedicated to protecting "the freedom to operate in space, keeping it secure, stable and accessible for military space power and new waves of innovation" for the US.
