Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were booked into jail on multiple charges, including Threat of Terrorism, Possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Possession of Explosive Devices.
The suspects, identified as Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were booked into jail on multiple charges, including Threat of Terrorism, Possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Possession of Explosive Devices.
The incident began on Friday when officials located an incendiary device under a FOX 13 vehicle. Investigators confirmed the device was real and had been lit but failed to detonate. Because of its construction and placement, authorities considered it a serious threat to public safety, prompting the FBI to take jurisdiction of the case.
On Saturday, FBI agents, supported by Salt Lake City police and Unified Fire bomb squads, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2700 South block of 8500 West in Magna.
During the operation, law enforcement discovered additional explosive materials inside the home, forcing the evacuation of the property and nearby residences. Investigators reported that while the suspects initially described two devices found inside as hoaxes, they later admitted they were real.
Although the warrant was limited to evidence related to the incendiary device under the news vehicle, officials say they found additional contraband during the search. This included firearms, explosive components, illegal narcotics, and electronic devices that may contain evidence tied to the original device.
Authorities also confirmed both suspects were under protective orders prohibiting them from possessing firearms.
In a statement, FOX 13 Station Manager Leona Wood said, “FOX 13 News is working closely with law enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and federal prosecutors are expected to review the case for potential additional charges.
