Two teenage girls are dead and two more are in critical condition following a crash near Calgary.

According to Cochrane RCMP, the crash, which took place around 12:30 am just west of Calgary, involved just one vehicle near Springbank on Range Road 32. The vehicle was a BMW X5 SUV.

The two girls were pronounced dead on the scene, while the other two were sent to Foothills Medical Centre with life-threatening injuries, reports CTV News.

An investigation is underway.
