Usha Vance's invite was a private matter and not an official visit.
The visit from Vance comes after President Donald Trump's oldest son, Donald Trump Jr, visited Nuuk, Greenland in January along with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The outlet reported that the US has been wanting to support the traditional dog sled race, but the visit is on private and not official terms, according to the outlet.
The dog sled race has gotten some financial assistance from the US from the United States consulate in Nuuk as well, the outlet reported. This comes as there has been recent talk from the Trump administration to possibly buy Greenland, and the president has said before that it is a matter of national as well as international security that the US have a presence there.
Earlier in March, when Trump was asked about his plans for the US to control the large island, he said, "Well I think it will happen, and I'm just thinking I didn't give it much thought before, but I'm sitting with a man that could be very instrumental."
At the time Trump made the comments, he was meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in the Oval Office when the two were also talking over plans for the war in Russia and Ukraine.
"Y'know Mark, we need that for international security, not just for security, international. We have a lot of our favorite players cruising around the coast," Trump joked, making reference to China as well as Russia, "and we have to be careful."
According to Sermitsiaq, Usha Vance will be attending the race on Saturday, March 29, and the whole visit will likely start in the middle of next week. However, she will not be meeting with any of Greenland's government officials.
