VIDEO: Gunman opens fire at South Los Angeles senior home—3 injured

A maintenance worker at a South Los Angeles senior living facility opened fire on his co-workers Monday. Three people were injured, including one who was critically wounded.

60-year-old Darry Arnette Barnes, a maintenance man at the Progressive Home for the Elderly, allegedly fired a handgun at his colleagues on Monday. He reportedly said “I’m tired of this” prior to shooting, according to KTLA.

Surveillance footage showed Barnes pulling a handgun from a shopping cart before firing at a person. He was then seen firing additional shots from the other side of a counter as a person dove over the counter in an apparent attempt to escape.

Three employees were transported to hospitals with gunshot wounds. The victims included a woman in her 40s, a woman in her 60s, and a man in his 60s. One victim was listed in critical condition, while the other two were listed in stable condition.

LAPD Captain Mike Bland told the California Post that all the victims are believed to be employees. “The shooting itself is believed to have occurred in the lobby of building. He [the suspect] was located by responders inside of the building,” Bland said.

Officers responded to the facility and were able to arrest Barnes without incident outside the building, which houses roughly 100 low-income senior citizens. He was charged with three counts of attempted murder and is being held on $4 million bail.

Pastor Jason Malveaux, the senior pastor of Progressive Community Missionary Baptist Church told KTLA after the shooting that his “biggest prayer is that we figure out a way to have peace with one another.”

“It doesn’t have to always escalate to hot tempers,” he said.

Barnes faces life in prison if convicted of his charges.
