The Democrat mayor of Del Rio, a Texan city on the US' southern border with Mexico, released a video on Wednesday begging President Joe Biden to stop releasing illegal immigrants into his city.

"I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas," asked Democratic Mayor Bruno Lozano. We do not have the resources available to house and accommodate these migrants within our community."

"I will have no choice but to use the extreme measure under the emergency declaration as the Mayor of the City of Del Rio, Texas, to refuse the entry of migrants awaiting court dates," he continued.

"If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources through these dire circumstances."

The state of Texas has experienced a rare winter storm across the state which has knocked out the state's power grid. Many Texans have struggled to simply stay warm during the crisis.

"If you're going to allow these individuals into our community, I respectfully ask that you provide the means and the supplies necessary to accommodate them safely under these extreme circumstances," Lozano said.

"We do not have a timestamp as to when we'll be getting power again, and we cannot guarantee it will be consistent," Lozano said of the crisis.

"We have been outsourcing dialysis treatments for in need persons in our community. We have had to relocate the elderly who are in need of power for oxygen tanks."

"We are completely and utterly spread thin," he declared, noting that icy roads make it difficult for resources to be imported to the city.

"Additionally, we have been burdened with the inadequate communication systems throughout the entire area which has impacted our ability to respond and coordinate limited resources and distribution," he further noted.

Lozano also argued that Del Rio has been diligent in protecting itself against coronavirus, and that bringing in illegal immigrants without subjecting them to coronavirus tests could undermine public health measures and Biden's own commitment to fighting the virus.

Lozano, a Democrat, became mayor of Del Rio in 2018, winning 62 percent of the vote. He has been noted for his military service and his flamboyant style.
