Montreal police were caught on video beating a man, with one of the officers choking him until he passed out.

In the video, a group of eight police officers can be seen crowding around the man in Jeanne-Mance Park, a park in the Le Plateau-Mont Royale area of Montreal. At least six of the officers were involved in physically restraining the man, who remains unidentified.

As the video goes on, it becomes evidently clear that one of the officers is choking him, a move which was noted by a passerby.

"They're choking him" one bystander exclaimed in distress. Other bystanders could also be heard expressing shock at the situation in the background.

The violent arrest took an even more violent turn, however, when the office who held the man in a choke hold began repeatedly punching the restrained man in the head. The action provoked an even more startled audible reaction from bystanders.

It is unclear why the man was arrested or what actions may have preceded the violent arrest. While police in Quebec have been documented to have been employing excessive force against protesters and civilians throughout the coronavirus pandemic, there is no indication that this incident was related to provincial coronavirus rules.
