"California has become a safe haven for criminals. Violence is skyrocketing and criminals are well aware that they can commit crimes with little to no consequence."

Adam Garcia, a California police officer urged the Chino City Council on Thursday to sign the petition to recall Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom. Garcia, a 19 year veteran officer, said Newsom’s policies have failed and made the state a "safe haven for criminals," causing crime to spike and an increase in homelessness which was made worse by the Governor’s response to the pandemic.

"If Gavin Newsome remains in office, ladies and gentlemen, California is on the clock and our time is running out. I truly believe if we lose this recall effort, we will lose California. Gavin Newsome has played politics with the lives of Californians long enough, and he must be stopped. We must protect the people of California."

The officer cited several graphic examples of crimes including murders in which prolific offenders were released by the Governor’s COVID policies and went on to re-offend.

"The thick stack of papers I hold in my hand are not a Hollywood screenplay. It is the arrest record of the same man who broke into this woman's house and assaulted her. This 42 year old man has been arrested. 28 times 16 of those arrests were for felony crimes. Those crimes range from drug possession, felony, domestic violence, gang member, and possession of a firearm armed robbery and rape. The suspect in this case was currently serving time for possession of narcotics and a firearm while on parole. So again, why was this man released from prison?"

Garcia levelled the blame  directly on Newsom. "The answer is simple yet it's disturbing. Under Governor Newsom men like this, are often released from prison because he classifies them as non-violent offenders. What is even more disturbing over the past year, Governor Newsom has been quietly releasing thousands of inmates from prisons throughout the state he is doing so without any threat assessment and with complete disregard for the safety of Californians, the term nonviolent offender is a phrase."

The officer also cited the new progressive Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon as part of the problems in the state. "People like Gavin Newsom and new LA district attorney George Gascon want you to believe these individuals do not pose a risk to the safety of the public, but those of us in law enforcement know this is a flat-out lie."

Garcia cited the 'revolving door' justice system in the state as a contributin factor for the crime. "California has become a safe haven for criminals. Violence is skyrocketing and criminals are well aware that they can commit crimes with little to no consequence. It is not uncommon for suspects to be released from custody on the same day of their arrest, and sometimes back on the streets before officers have even completed the reports. This rising crime and the escalating threat to California residents is a direct result of the failed policies put in place by Gavin Newsom."

The 19 year veteran called for bi-partisan unity on signing the petition. "Let me be perfectly clear. I'm not a Democrat or Republican. I'm an American. Bye. I'm also a police officer. And as a police officer, I swore an oath to defend the lives and property of others. I have no political agenda here, just an obligation to my oath. My fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement are doing all we can to protect the people of California, but this mass release of inmates and soft on crime policies are becoming overwhelming and destroying our ability to keep our community safe."

Organizers of the recall announced last week that they had passed the threshold in signature gathering to get the initiative on the November ballot. The campaign is still collecting signatures in order to offset the signatures which are inevitably invalidated during the signature review process.
