Jeffrey Toobin, the CNN legal analyst who was infamously caught masturbating during a Zoom meeting, called Kyle Rittenhouse an "idiot."

During a panel discussion on Wednesday, CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin offered his take on the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse.

"What kind of idiot 17-year-old," Toobin began, "gets a giant gun and goes to a riot? He has no license, he has no training; he thinks he's gonna scrub graffiti off with his AR-15? I mean, the stupidity of this..."

Toobin, who gained international attention after being caught masturbating during a Zoom meeting with colleagues in 2020, then suggested that, "The good news for Kyle Rittenhouse is that he's not on trial for being an idiot, he's on trial for homicide."

"If it were illegal to be an idiot," he continued, "the jails would be even more crowded than they are now."

Toobin did concede that the is trial is not concerned with whether or not Rittenhouse is an idiot for having been in Kenosha that day, rather the focus is on the actions he took during the riot, and whether they were justified given the situation. "This is a tough case for the prosecution," he said, "because it does seem like [Rittenhouse] has a plausible case of self defence."
