WATCH: Tucker Carlson SLAMS 'America's Worst Mayor' Lori Lightfoot for blaming AR-15s for Chicago's handgun violence

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was slammed by Fox News host Tucker Carlson Monday night as "America's Worst Mayor" for her suggestion that assault weapons are to blame for rising gun violence in the Windy City. 52 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend, and nearly all of them were shot with handguns.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot blamed the increase in gun violence on "assault rifles" in a further push to gain gun control measures. However, Lightfoot failed to acknowledge that nearly all gun violence is committed with handguns, not the weapons she seeks to ban.

"Low IQ political leaders patronize us with the same mindless talking points. The same talk about gun control and assault weapons like AR-15s are the problem and not our political class, which is clearly the problem," Tucker said.

Carlson laid out the horrific deaths the city has seen as violent crime has continued its sharp rise.  Data shows a sharp increase in gun-related crimes within the past year. In April of 2021, 743 people were shot in Chicago compared to 521 people the same time last year.

In April of 2021, 21-month-old Kayden Swan was shot in the head on Lake Shore Drive 18 in Chicago. While Kayden ultimately survived the tragic incident that left him in a coma and on ventilation, the five others that were shot succumbed to their wounds.

This past weekend, a Puerto Rican man named Gyovanni Arzuaga was shot and killed after a mob of violent delinquents surrounded his vehicle during a Puerto Rican Day Parade in Chicago’s Humboldt Park.  His girlfriend, the mother of his two children, was shot in the neck and remains in critical condition, Chicago Sun Times reported.

"It's tiresome even to repeat it, but again, because we are literal and connected to physical reality, we feel honor bound to tell you once more something that Lori Lightfoot of course knows herself. Virtually every gun crime in the city of Chicago is committed with a handgun, not with an AR 15. Virtually no crimes nationwide are committed with 'assault weapons,'" Tucker said while slamming Lightfoot’s false accusations.

"So why is she focused on 'assault weapons'?" Tucker asked. "Well, because the people who own assault weapons don't live in Chicago and didn't vote for her. So she'd be happy to disarm them!"
