Why does the media blindly believe China’s coronavirus stats?

If you ever needed an obvious sign of the incompetence of the mainstream media in the US, look no further than their embarrassing willingness to not only believe the statistics coming out of China regarding COVID-19, but report on them with full confidence. Yesterday, NBC News tweeted this out:

Virtually every reply to this announcement is skeptical at the least, and angry at the worst toward yet another mainstream media outlet parroting Chinese statistics that we all know should not be trusted. It is (or should be) common knowledge at this point that vital information about COVID-19 was censored and hidden by the CCP (Communist Party of China) at the very birth of the virus. In fact, they seemingly did absolutely everything in their power to hide the existence of the virus.

In the beginning, they barred doctors from speaking out to the Chinese media (which is state owned), concealed and downplayed actual numbers of cases, and disallowed foreign health experts from entering the country to study the virus. To top it off, they refused to close flights leaving China, effectively infecting the entire planet and sending us all into a collective health and economic crisis.

All of this should be unsurprising from a country that doesn’t even let it’s own people access websites like Youtube and Facebook, but somehow it doesn’t cross the minds of the journalists employed by CNN, NBC, ABC, etc that perhaps these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

There is perhaps a more sinister reality behind the American media’s actions, however—they might not simply be ignorant of the CCP’s shady behaviour, but rather support it in favour of making America look bad. It’s hard to not feel like certain politicians and activists on the Left are happy about America becoming the “most infected”, as long as it means yet another talking point to hurl against President Trump. Even Hillary Clinton used the supposed mass death of Americans to dunk on the man who stole her dreams of presidency:

The fact is, coronavirus is clearly ravaging America and is undoubtedly a huge problem. The response from our government and President Trump has been unsuccessful at some turns and worthy of critique. However, using Chinese propaganda to prove any points is the height of ignorance. It is far more likely that America has not actually surpassed China in cases of COVID-19—we are simply accurately reporting our numbers. China has a population of 1.386 billion—anyone who believes we have more cases is simply falling for communist propaganda.
