Julia B Letlow, Candidate for Louisiana's 5th Congressional District received a formal endorsement from former President Donald Trump Wednesday.
The endorsement from Trump came via the former President’s Save America PAC. "Julia Letlow, a wonderful and talented person, who is the widow of US Representative-elect Luke Letlow, is running for Congress in Louisiana-5, at the urging of so many people who know her so very well. She is Pro-Life and strong on crime, the Border, loves our Military, our Vets, and will always cherish our Second Amendment. Julie, who is outstanding, has my Complete and Total Endorsement. The Great State of Louisiana will be thrilled!"
Letlow tweeted the endorsement and said, "It's truly an honor to receive President Trump's endorsement and I look forward to joining in the fight to save our country by putting America first!"
Letlow is running in place of her husband, who was elected in 2020 to represent Louisiana’s fifth district, but died of complications from the coronavirus before he could take office. Luke Letlow won a runoff election to replace Rep. Ralph Abraham, who he had previously served as his chief of staff.
Julia Letlow PHD, is an executive at the University of Louisiana Monroe. She announced her intent to run for the seat just weeks after her late husband's death. In January, she released a statement declaring her candidacy which said, "I am running to continue the mission Luke started — to stand up for our Christian values, to fight for our rural agricultural communities and to deliver real results to move our state forward."
The special election is scheduled for March 20.
