WNBA posts clip showing Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers BETTING on outcome of game—then deletes it after realizing that's a violation of their own rules

The WNBA has deleted a post on X showing Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese appearing to place a $400 wager during All-Star Weekend, an action that is explicitly prohibited under WNBA rules.

The video, which has since been reposted many times, shows Reese holding several hundred-dollar bills as the two agree to the bet, seemingly wagering on their opposing teams. Reese, whose Dream ultimately defeated Bueckers' Wings 82-81, later said during a press conference that she would be requesting Bueckers' Apple Pay after the presser.

While the wager appeared to be a friendly bet between friends, the WNBA has strict rules prohibiting the practice. Section 5(c) of the WNBA Constitution states:

"Any player found by the Commissioner after a hearing to have been guilty of wagering (directly or indirectly), or of offering or attempting to wager, money or anything of value on the outcome, score, or any other aspect of any WNBA Competition shall, in the sole discretion of the Commissioner, be subject to a fine, suspension, and/or dismissal and disqualification from any further association with the WNBA."

Conservative radio host and sports commentator Clay Travis weighed in on the league's apparent public misstep on X, bashing the league as "run by morons."

"The WNBA posted a video of Angel Reese and Paige Bueckers betting $400 on which woman's team would win," he wrote. "Then deleted it after realizing this violates league rules. This entire league is run by morons."

Travis then compared the league's lack of action on the matter to the consequences NFL players have faced for similar incidents.

"Players in the NFL have missed entire seasons for this," he continued. "Legit the dumbest move, potentially, in social media history by a sports league to post this."

This comes as the issue of sports gambling becomes a mounting concern in professional sports. Earlier this year, federal authorities announced charges related to several illegal gambling operations linked to high-dollar wagers placed by professional athletes. The NBA has been under particular scrutiny after former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was banned for life following an investigation that found he had violated the league's gambling policy by sharing confidential information with bettors and manipulating his availability for games tied to prop bets.
