Woke Green Party Senate candidate from New Jersey Christina Khalil posted that the "climate crisis is real" in response to Friday's earthquake in the state.

Khalil posted online, "I experienced my first earthquake in NJ. We never get earthquakes. The climate crisis is real. The weirdest experience ever."

A proposed community note had already been showing by the time the post reached 38k views on X.

Others on the platform quickly responded to say that earthquakes are not a result of climate change, but are in fact a geological phenomenon having to do with tectonic plates. New Jersey is the site the Ramapo Fault, which runs under the Appalachian mountains and into the state. Five fault lines cross beneath Manhattan in New York City.

"PLEASE, I'm dying to hear how your climate scam is responsible for an earthquake," one user replied. "Please, use your overwhelming 'Climate Advisor' experience, and your multiple masters degrees in climatology, meteorology, and physics to explain."

Another pointed out that earthquakes have occurred in the region before and that the incident, while unusual for the east coast, is nothing new.

"You should be embarrassed by this post. We have had them before,"another replied.

On Friday morning, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook the ground in and around New Jersey and New York City. Although it came as a shock to many, the damage was limited.

Some have taken the opportunity to poke fun at some who have overreacted to the events by posting pictures of cups tipping over.

Another featured a chair, saying "Significant earthquake damage here in NJ. We will rebuild!"
