A woman in the UK was pregnant when she contracted the coronavirus. Doctors put her into a coma to save her life and she wound up giving birth to twins while unconscious.

On April 10th, the decision was made to deliver the twins by caesarian section, at only 26 weeks of gestation. They were only 850 grams and 770 grams at the time and were immediately placed in special care for premature infants.

According to Global News, Dr. Perpetual Uke (herself a doctor, specializing in rheumatology) got sick with the coronavirus in the final days of March of this year. She was admitted to hospital in Birmingham UK. Her symptoms quickly progressed and, it was necessary to place her on a ventilator, and then induce a coma to save her life.

Uke woke up on May 6th of this year, 16 days after the birth of her girls, disoriented and with a big surprise awaiting her.

According to Uke's husband Matthew, "It was really terrifying.  Every passing day, I was hoping my wife was not among those who are dead. We are a team. The idea she might not be there was really difficult to accept."
