The family sued the US government, the ICE officer who shot her, and other federal officials.
One lawsuit seeks to hold the US government liable for wrongful death under the Federal Tort Claims Act. A second suit was filed against ICE agent Jonathan Ross as well as several White House officials, including Stephen Miller and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
The first suit alleged wrongful death under Minnesota law and cited "battery, assault, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence that caused Renee's death."
The second alleged "conspiracy to interfere with civil rights by senior federal officials, federal immigration enforcement agents, and private actors." It also claimed that there was a conspiracy to target Somali and Hispanic communities with ICE.
Lawyers for Good’s family claimed in a press release: “Renee’s death was not an accident. It was the predictable result of a coordinated campaign by senior officials in this administration to target Minnesotans of Somali or Hispanic origin and silence anyone who dared to raise their voice in protest.”
Good as well as her wife were approached by ICE officers on the roads of Minneapolis while they were blocking traffic in protest of the ICE surge that was taking place in the city on January 7 last year. When the officers, including Ross, ordered her to exit her vehicle, she instead drove forward, striking the ICE agent, who then shot Good in response. She died at the scene.
