1.6 MILLION illegal immigrants have final orders of removal, 800,000 are convicted criminals: ICE Director Todd Lyons

In a Senate hearing on Thursday, ICE Acting Director Todd Lyons revealed that his agency is tracking around 1.6 million illegal immigrants who have final orders of removal, and that around half of them are people with criminal convictions.

Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs member James Lankford asked what percentage of people who have a detainer or are in the removal process have a final order of removal, to which Lyons said he did not have a percentage for that point.

"I can give you—what we’re tracking right now is about 1.6 million final orders in the United States, with approximately 800,000 of those having criminal convictions," Lyons said.

While addressing Lyons, Lankford said that under the Biden administration, there were 10,000 illegal immigrants coming over the border every day, and that in 2024, there were 70,000 people who were "special interest aliens that had a locational connection to terrorism, but we had no idea who they were."

During the hearing, Sen Bernie Moreno noted the violence ICE agents have faced across the country. "I think the second piece I’d like to enter into the record is just some pretty outrageous statistics, because we’re talking about outrage here, let’s talk about outrage: 8,043 percent increase in death threats to ICE agents in the last 12 months, 8,043. A 1,426 percent increase in assault against the ICE officials, a 16,700 percent increase in threats of assault against your agents, both of you. A 33,300 percent increase in vehicular attacks against your agents, and a 964 percent increase against officials that, like yourselves, that are not in the field every single day.”
