A devastating incident unfolded in North Port, Florida as a 6-year-old boy lost his life after getting brutally attacked by a pit bull mixed breed dog. The child suffered severe chest injuries on Tuesday, which were so critical that he had to be urgently airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he received life-saving treatment.

Although his condition was initially stabilized, Daylan Guillen was later transferred to Tampa General for further medical care. Sadly, the boy passed away one day after the incident according to WINK News.

The North Port Police Department shed light on the tragic event, stating that it occurred inside the child's home. The dog involved in the attack was situated in a bedroom when the child entered. Suddenly, screams were heard, prompting people to intervene.

Josh Taylor, the public information officer of the North Port Police Department, provided details on the incident. He explained, "The dog was in a bedroom, the child walked into the bedroom to get something. Next thing you know, people heard screaming and jumped into action." Taylor also mentioned that the police were unaware of any previous biting incidents or behavioral problems involving the dog.

North Port Area Little league paid tribute to Daylan with a Facebook post that read: "Daylan loved baseball! And he would be at the field with a smile on his face and ready to go. Daylan had no fear with playing with the older kids. He wanted to become a pitcher. He loved the Juniors team and those boys loved him."

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover Daylan's extensive medical costs.

The authorities currently lack information on what triggered the attack and are actively investigating the matter. It remains uncertain whether fireworks played a role in the dog's behavior, leading to the tragic outcome.

No charges have been filed thus far, and the dog has been taken into custody by Sarasota County Animal Services.

North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident, stating, "Our hearts are broken for this young child and his family... As a father and pet owner, I know this is one of the worst tragedies you can imagine. We ask that everyone take a few moments to pay respect and reflect on those you care for in your life. Our time here is precious."
