67 people were arrested over the weekend at a series of underground parties in Los Angeles which included four people being shot, one of them fatally, ABC7 reports.

Police raided three parties as part of a crackdown on illegal "super-spreading" events in the city. Los Angeles has been under strict lockdown for weeks in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The first party, which took place in downtown Los Angeles, saw a shooting where one 25-year-old man was killed shortly before police arrived. Two other individuals were shot at the party and were hospitalized.

While a second party in Compton was shut down without incident, a third party in Arlington Heights, which "was monitored for a possible department enforcement mission," was eventually shut down after one person was shot. Police did not provide any further details on the shooting, but it appears the victim survived.

60 adults and six minors were arrested for violating lockdown rules, while one adult was arrested for firearm possession. Police also said there was evidence of nitrous oxide, colloquially known as laughing gas, being present at the party, although they did not state that anyone was arrested for it.

The authorities utilized various agencies and units to conduct the arrests, including the Human Trafficking Task Force, Operation Safe Streets Bureau, Fraud and Cyber Crime Bureau, Aero Bureau and the Sheriff's Response Team. According to Deputy Joana Warren, the goal of the operations "is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the risk to our vulnerable populations."
