Singer and songwriter Alicia Keys deleted an Instagram post and posted a retraction after being slammed for the post which many on social media called pro-Hamas.

On Monday, the Grammy-winner posted a picture of herself wearing a green leather jacket and wrote, “What would you do if u weren’t afraid of anything??? Tell me your truth…” adding, “I’ve had my eyes on paragliding.”

Users on the platform roasted Keys noting that paragliders were used by Hamas terrorists to infiltrate Israel on Oct. 7 in the massacre of over 1,300 Israelis, and injured thousands more. Additionally, hundreds were taken hostage including Americans and other foreign nationals.

Some users suggested Keys was wearing green, the terrorist organization’s color, in solidarity with Hamas.

Keys eventually deleted the post and wrote a short statement to her Instagram Stories that read, “The post I shared was COMPLETELY unrelated in any way to the recent devastating loss of innocent lives. My heart has been breaking…. I pray for and stand for peace.”

In 2013, activists attempted to stop Keys from performing in the Jewish state. In response, Keys told The New York Times, “I look forward to my first visit to Israel. Music is a universal language that is meant to unify audiences in peace and love, and that is the spirit of our show.”

The singer's former talent manager Guy Oseary defended the singer on Instagram writing, “There’s talk of an antisemitic post that my dear friend Alicia Keys had up on her Instagram. I can confirm to anyone in my [Jewish] community that needs to hear it: it’s NOT true.”

He continued, “There was a specific word in her post that our community at this very painful time find very triggering, but it was absolutely not connected in any way. I spoke to Alicia and she was horrified to learn what the word implied and immediately took it down.”
