Protesters opposing the Trans Mountain pipeline blocked the intersection of Clark Drive and Hasting Street in Vancouver on Tuesday in an effort to restrict access to the port.
According to the group Braided Warriors, the protest was in response to the sentencing of anti-pipeline protester Stacey Gallagher to 90 days in jail after being found guilty of violating a court injunction prohibiting a protest at a pipeline site in Burnaby.
"We need bodies at Clark and Hastings ASAP for port blockade in solidarity with our uncle Stacey Gallagher," the group posted on their Facebook page while calling for additional protesters to join them. "Your inaction is complacency, and complacency is violence."
The protesters arrived at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday and remained there overnight. The protesters were still present by late Wednesday morning.
The protest comes two weeks after the Braided Warriors held another protest in downtown Vancouver in front of an office building. The protest was also related to pipelines.
It also comes a year after the so-called shutdown Canada protests from early 2020, when anti-pipeline protesters blocked major transportation routes including train tracks and highways across the country in protest of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
