After previously supporting President Joe Biden's reelection campaign and demonizing fellow Democrats for trying to force him out of the race, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has thrown her full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed Biden at the top of the ticket.

After Biden's X account announced he was ending his bid for re-election on Sunday, a follow up post endorsed Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination. On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez claimed during an Instagram livestream that there was “enormous peril” by replacing the president at the top of the ticket.

However, on Sunday afternoon, the progressive firebrand appeared to have a change of heart and pledged her full support to Harris. Ocasio-Cortez posted on X, “Kamala Harris will be the next President of the United States. I pledge my full support to ensure her victory in November.”

She added, “Now more than ever, it is crucial that our party and country swiftly unite to defeat Donald Trump and the threat to American democracy. Let’s get to work.”

During Thursday’s livestream, Ocasio-Cortez cautioned that Democrats were not sold on Harris. She said, “I'm just going to say it. If you think that there is consensus among the people who want Joe Biden to leave..... that they will support Kamala, Vice President Harris, you would be mistaken.”

She continued, “I'm in these rooms. I see what they say in conversations. They are interested in removing the whole ticket.” Ocasio-Cortez also noted a “lack of thought” from Democratic leadership for not having an alternate plan to Biden running.

Harris has already been endorsed by notable Democrats including the Clintons and California Gov. Gavin Newsom as well as Ocasio-Cortez’s fellow Squad members Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Cori Bush (D-Mo).
