A city councillor in British Columbia has called on PM Mark Carney to ban X, confiscate MAGA hats, as well as declared that supporters of US President Donald Trump are part of an "extremist organization” in Canada.

Victoria, BC councillor Jeremy Caradonna posted on Bluesky, writing, “If I'm Carney, l'd declare the MAGA movement an 'extremist organization' and clamp down on its activities, in defense of Canadian sovereignty.”

"That's what Ukraine did against Russian state-backed entities. Ban X in Canada as hostile propaganda. Confiscate MAGA hats. Restrict travel for US MAGAS," he added.

The post from the politician comes as President Donald Trump has threatened the US' northern neighbor with tariffs over illegal immigration as well as fentanyl coming through the northern border. Mexico, as well, has been a target of similar threats as the US has been vying to get the trafficking of fentanyl to come to a halt.

At the beginning of March, a 25 percent tariff went into effect against nearly all good coming into the US from Mexico and Canada, after a few days of negotiations, Trump paused the tariffs on any goods that were covered by the United States, Mexico, Canada trade agreement that he put in place during his first term in office.

At the time he signed an executive order to delay the 25 percent tariff until April 2, when his proposed reciprocal tariffs will go into effect. However, reports have said that the administration is planning on narrowing the scope of the reciprocal tariffs to only a percent of the countries around the world, something Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has called the "dirty 15" percent of countries.
