On Wednesday, a provincial court judge in BC sentenced Mohammad Movassaghi, comparing him to someone selling fentanyl on the street for breaking BC's lockdown rules.

Apparently Movassaghi had thrown an illegal party. Judge Ellen Gordon called it "a crime, not a party." however. He was convicted of the unlawful purchase of grain alcohol, disobeying a court order and failing to comply with a health officer's orders.

According to Canadian Press, Gordon commented in her final remarks on the case:

"I have parties, or I did prior to the pandemic, and I invited people, I invited guests. I don't have stripper poles. I don't have chairs around for people to watch. I don't charge admission. I don't charge for liquor. I don't have a point-of-sale device to attach to my cellular phone. This isn't a party."

"If someone who had been at your party was infected and died, as far as I'm concerned, you're guilty of manslaughter. If someone who had been at your party was infected and passed it on to grandma, as far as I'm concerned, you're guilty of manslaughter."

"What you did, sir, is comparable to individuals who sell fentanyl to the individuals on the street who die every day. There's no difference. You voluntarily assumed a risk that could kill people in the midst of a pandemic."

In January of 2021, police in Vancouver executed a warrant to enter the penthouse condominium that Movassaghi was renting. There, they found evidence of illegal gatherings that were ongoing.

The 1,800 square foot apartment was even equipped with a stripper pole and special lighting had even been installed. Police arrived at the location with the warrant at 3:00am and found 78 people inside, none of whom resided there.

The police also saw a topless woman dancing around the pole, and found drink menus on the premises. The place had been dubbed "Granny's Exotic Bar".

Ironically, the judge insisted that Movassaghi make a personal appearance for his sentencing, which pushed the schedule back a whole hour.
