It has been revealed that Joe Biden cancelled nine trips to various destinations across the United States over the next two weeks following his decision to drop out of the presidential race. A source familiar with the matter told the New York Post that the president was set to start travelling on Monday, but opted instead to extend his stay at home until Wednesday.

Biden has been holed up in his Rehoboth, Delaware residence since being diagnosed with COVID-19 last week, however presidential physician Dr. Kevin O'Connor recently noted that Biden's symptoms have "almost resolved completely," and that all his vitals are "absolutely normal." The source said they were not provided with a reason for the decision to scrap the plans.

"They started cancelling stuff when he announced he wasn't seeking re-election," the source told the Post on Monday. "He was supposed to leave today to start the west coast trip, but they extended his stay in Rehoboth until the 24th." The president was set to attend events, both official and campaign, in California, Colorado, and Texas. He was also expected to attend a meeting with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.

On Monday, Houston mayor John Whitmire revealed that a meeting with Biden to go over the response to Hurricane Beryl had been cancelled last minute. He nonetheless expressed his gratitude towards the administration, and wished the president a quick recovery.

Since announcing the end of his campaign, Biden has only made one public appearance, calling in to Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign event on Monday. During his brief address, he vowed to be by her side as she seeks to become the Democratic nominee.

Biden explained that COVID-19 would be "keeping me out of people's hair for the next three or four days," but that he was "not going anywhere," and would be "out on the campaign with [Harris] working like hell."
