Biden’s "body has deteriorated faster than his mind," adding that sometimes the president is "thinking clearly," but often "just can’t get the words out."
Under Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Robert P. Silvers described President Joe Biden’s accelerated mental decline during his presidency, saying that the decline began just 12 to 24 months into his White House term. Silvers also said that the impact of Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory on staff was a "crushing blow."
Silvers, who works with the president, admitted that Biden’s mental faculties began to significantly deteriorate within the first 2 years of taking office, saying “He’s not the guy he was when he took office four years ago,” adding that "[Biden] has degraded faculties." Silvers noted that Biden’s decline has significantly affected his ability to lead meetings in the White House’s Situation Room.
He said Biden’s "body has deteriorated faster than his mind," adding that sometimes the president is "thinking clearly," but often "just can’t get the words out."
He described Donald Trump’s 2024 election win over Vice President Kamala Harris as “traumatic” and a “crushing blow” to members of the Biden administration. He added that after Trump won “there’s no work to be done.”
Silvers also acknowledged the administration’s struggles with record-high illegal immigration at the southern border, which has plagued Biden’s presidency. “At the start of the Biden administration, the border numbers spiked, really much higher,” he admitted, highlighting the difficulty of managing the crisis.
Silvers was also caught on video saying, regarding the record-high southern border illegal immigration crisis, "At the start of the Biden administration, the border numbers spiked, really much higher."
Silvers left his position on Wednesday in what is believed to be a coincidence of timing. He had sent an email to staff ahead of Thanksgiving telling them that December 18 would be his last day. While at DHS, he mainly focused on "cybersecurity issues such as ransomware. He also chaired the high-profile Cyber Safety Review Board, a public-private panel loosely modeled after the National Transportation Safety Board, that was established by President Joe Biden to probe major digital incidents," per The Record.
As for the timing, which dovetailed with the OMG video release, a source told The Record "It wasn't related in any way, completely separate."
