On Tuesday, the Biden administration offered "condolences" to the family of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five who was allegedly raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant, but the White House would not say how it would secure the US Southern Border.

A spokesperson told Fox News, "We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Rachel Morin. We cannot comment on active law enforcement cases. But fundamentally, we believe that people should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law if they are found to be guilty."

The administration did not respond to multiple inquiries from the outlet regarding the White House’s threshold to close the border or other measures if murders and violent crimes continue to spike.

Last week, authorities arrested El Salvador native Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, 23, who entered the US illegally and is accused of raping and murdering Morin near a Maryland hiking trail in August. He is also suspected of committing a similar crime in El Salvador but was still able to enter the US through the porous Southern Border.

The investigation tracked Martinez Hernandez to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was arrested at a local bar.

Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler who helped investigate the case told Fox News, "He tried to come in legally and he was turned away. And yeah, that didn't deter him because we have such a porous border and he came right through… and this is the result."

The Maryland sheriff added, "He killed a woman in El Salvador and that's why he fled there, to come here through our open border," noting that the border is a "public safety crisis."

Gahler added, "It's just insane that we would allow things like Rachel's murder to happen, and when I say ‘allow it,’ we allowed it by letting him into this country unchallenged. That shouldn't happen to families in our country. This is preventable."

On Monday, former President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social, "ANOTHER one of Crooked Joe Biden's Illegal Immigrant Criminals was just charged with raping and murdering ANOTHER innocent American woman! Rachel Morin was on a run in Maryland, just like Laken Riley was in Georgia, when she was brutally killed by an illegal monster who was wanted for murder in El Salvador and fled to the USA because he knew Crooked Joe would let him in."

He continued, "Now Rachel Morin's 5 young children will grow up without their mother because Crooked Joe refuses to shut down the border," adding, "This is unsustainable and can't be allowed to continue! On day one, we will SHUT DOWN THE BORDER and start deporting millions of Biden's Illegal Criminals. We will once again put AMERICANS First and MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN! To Rachel Morin's family and especially her 5 children, May God be with you!"
