President Joe Biden posted on X on Thursday to fundraise amidst the arrest of former President Donald Trump in Fulton County, Georgia.

"Apropos of nothing, I think today's a great day to give to my campaign," Biden posted on his X profile with a link to fundraise for his campaign at 7:30 p.m. EST.

Trump was headed to Fulton Couty Jail around the time of the post. Trump's mugshot was released that evening. Biden's attempts to fundraise at the same time were met with harsh criticism.

Trump himself highlighted the post's timing. In a campaign message, he said, "It's no secret that Crooked Joe is behind these sham indictments and arrests. And now he’s fundraising off of the very prosecutions that he himself orchestrated.”

Others replied to Biden's post on X to criticize the President. One user, who said he used to be a Democrat, said that Trump has his vote in the election.

Maze, a well-followed video editor on X, pointed out Biden's history of making off-putting comments about race and shared a video of some of these remarks.

Biden was asked about the mugshot of Trump after the events of Thursday evening.

As he was still on vacation in Lake Tahoe, California, and being booed by a nearby crowd, Biden chuckled and told reporters his thoughts.

"I did see [the mugshot] on television. Handsome guy. Wonderful guy," Biden joked.

In recent weeks, Biden and the Democrats have been fearful about the massive decline in their fundraising efforts from grassroots donations. According to Politico, dollars raised by the president from grassroots efforts have declined by more than $30 million in the first half of 2023 as compared to the 2020 election cycle.

In the second quarter of this year, there have also been 32 percent lower numbers of donors to the campaign in comparison to the first time running against Trump.

According to 538, Biden's approval rating since he took office in January of 2021 has plummeted over 10 points, from over 54 percent approval to around a mere 41 percent in the last month.
