"Undercovered and underreported, that would be, to me, Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate."
Crawford, who is the chief legal correspondent at CBS, said that there should have been more reporting on Biden's decline in 2024 when answering a question about the biggest underreported story of the year. "Undercovered and underreported, that would be, to me, Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline that became undeniable in the televised debate," Crawford told others on the panel.
She added, "It's starting to emerge now that his advisers kind of managed his limitations ... for four years. And yet he insisted that he could still run for president. We should’ve much more forcefully questioned whether he was fit for office for another four years.”
Crawford added that this could have led to a primary for the Democrats and changed the course of the entire election for the Democratic Party, which ended up switching out Biden for Vice President Harris. The move proved to be a misstep for the party, with Trump winning a second term in the White House in a landslide victory.
During the 2024 campaign, and before, questions surrounding Biden's mental fitness were reported at some news outlets, with some going back to 2022 where Biden referred to Michelle Obama as the "vice president." But evidence of this was even seen early on in his presidency. Gold Star families of the Afghanistan withdrawal told The Post Millennial that Biden left them waiting for hours while he took a nap on Air Force One.
Although there were moments reported of Biden freezing up and many gaffes seen in viral clips, the White House press secretary tried to label reports on these moments as "cheap fakes." Some left-wing pundits also tried to defend him at times early in the campaign. Most defenses of Biden's mental state, however, came to a halt after he had a disastrous debate performance against Trump in late June, leading to Harris' subsequent nomination.
