The DEI package for the Department of Health and Human Services is over $100 million, similar to the request of 2023.
Part of the $1.2 trillion spending package that was released around 2:30 am on Thursday is a little over $100 million to fund DEI trainings for the Department of Health and Human Services.
As part of the addendum for the DHHS, a section designated as "Training for Diversity" that is made up of funding for Centers of Excellence, the Health Careers Opportunity Program, Faculty Loan Repayment, and Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students amounts to over $100 million.
According to many other budget line items reviewed by The Post Millennial in the $1.2 trillion spending package, DEI seems to be a focus in other places. Another example is the $4.7 million in funding that will be going to the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer over at the Department of Homeland Security.
A budget report from DHS projected that it would need to set aside "s $4.7M for the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer" in FY 2024.
Earmarks from senators in the package were also DEI related. One earmark from Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith requested $775,000 be set aside for African Career Education & Resource, (ACER) Inc. The values of the organization focus on "racial equity" and declares that "ACER operates from a race equity lens."
