Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas claims Nina Jankowicz will "absolutely" be neutral as she heads up a new federal board created to curb disinformation.

Mayorkas made the comments in a recent interview with CNN, after the host noted Republicans say Jankowicz, who has spread disinformation on a number of topics, is not neutral.

Jankowicz is "eminently qualified," Mayorkas said, adding that she’s "a renowned expert in the field of disinformation."

In screenshots of old tweets posted to Twitter, Jankowicz was seen dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop as Russian misinformation, slamming free speech, and bashing Twitter’s decision to stop actions against 2020 election posts.

Jankowicz went as far as to call the Hunter Biden laptop story a "fairy tale."

She will be heading up the recently announced "Disinformation Governance Board," which will fall under the purview of  the Department of Homeland Security. It will equip local communities to identify individuals who could be “descending into violence” from influence of hate, false narratives, or other forms of misinformation.

On Saturday, former Republican President Donald Trump attacked the board — which he said exists to censor free speech — and referred to Jankowicz as a "longtime political operative."

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki has said that Jankowicz is an "expert on online disinformation” and has "extensive qualifications" on the matter.

Jankowicz  has also publicly voiced support for Taylor Lorenz, a Washington Post reporter whose work has come into question on numerous occasions.

Most recently, the Washington Post tech reporter published an expose on the creator of the popular Libs of TikTok Twitter account last week, unveiling the name and address of the creator, who had voiced her desire to remain anonymous.
