"Zyahna has been receiving hate mail and threats for YEARS, and recently they have become worse."
Bryant was a student at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville in the summer of 2020 and took part in BLM protests. The fundraiser lists her as a "young Charlottesville activist," and the ask is to help keep her safe.
Bryant was recently criticized in media after she announced a partnership with Dove beauty brand on her Instagram. The criticism was leveled at Bryant's continuing to be outspoken about the marginalization of minorities, while she brought heaps of hate onto a classmate when they were both studying at the University of Virginia. She alleged that a white student was racist and ruined the woman's life. That woman was able to prove that she had not said anything racist at all, and that Bryant had misheard her.
There were no consequences for Bryant who smeared the woman mercilessly. The woman was not able to continue her education and had to leave school for a time before being able to finish her degree. Her future plans were also derailed by the baseless accusations.
In the video announcing the partnership, Bryant spoke about "centering the voices and the experiences of those who live in and who maneuver through spaces and institutions in a fat body." Her mission is to be a fat liberation activist.
"Sadly, in today's national climate with so many angry, violent and unpredictable people, being a visible outspoken advocate and activist comes with significant risks," the fundraiser, allegedly launched by Bryant's cousin, states.
"Zyahna has been receiving hate mail and threats for YEARS, and recently they have become worse. Zyahna is currently a graduate student and we want to ensure that she is able to continue all of the work that she is doing in the classroom and in the community. We do not want to allow these racist attacks to take away from that."
What those racist attacks are was not specified, but undoubtedly they are referring to social media accounts blasting Bryant for claiming to be marginalized after literally using her privilege as a BLM activist to ruin another woman's life. Either Bryant is a marginalized activist, or she is powerful enough to ruin a woman's life based her own false assertions.
The fundraiser, which has raised over $9,000 of the $15,000 at the time of writing, does not cite anything specific that the funds would be used for. While safety is mentioned, there is not an amount of the $15,000 that is designated for security personnel for Bryant.
