On Wednesday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety announced that a Lake Havasu has been found guilty of attempted murder of a detective, releasing the bodycam footage of the April 2022 incident.

The jury found Juan Manuel Rodriguez guilty of 11 charges on July 19, including attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault, possession of narcotic drugs and dangerous drugs for sale, unlawful flight, money laundering, drive-by shooting, discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure and misconduct involving weapons.

On April 1, 2022, an AZDPS detective attempted to pull over Rodriquez after he failed to stop at a stop sign, but he fled, with the detective pursuing. Rodriguez attempted to ram the detective’s vehicle during the pursuit.

Later, he lost control of the vehicle, and the detective collided with the front of Rodriguez’s vehicle. The detective drew his pistol and approached the vehicle, as seen in the footage, when Rodriguez began shooting the detective with an automatic weapon.

The detective returned fire from inside the vehicle as Rodriguez attempted to flee the scene. Rodriguez got behind the detective’s patrol vehicle and began shooting out the back windows.

During the gunfight, the detective was shot in the back, and was later transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injury and released.

Rodriguez, who was also wounded, drove to a desert nearby, where his car was unable to move. A police helicopter observed Rodriguez dropping a bag and walking towards the nearby Mohave County Community College, where he collapsed before reaching the school buildings. He was detained and transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked into jail.

In the bag, officers found $34,504 in cash, over 11 grams of fentanyl, and 10 grams of methamphetamine. Five firearms, including a full-automatic handgun and an Uzi were discovered, as well as multiple drug ledgers and additional cash.
