Bryan Kohberger has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders of four University of Idaho students.

Kohberger declined to speak prior to his sentencing on Wednesday. During the hearing, family members and friends of the victims delivered emotional statements. The sister of one victim referred to Kohberger as a “sociopath, psychopath, murderer.” The stepfather of another victim took the podium and told Kohberger to "go to hell."

Earlier this month, Kohberger changed his plea to guilty as part of a deal to avoid the death penalty. He admitted to the killings of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Madison Mogen.

Judge Steven Hippler described Kohberger as a "faceless coward" who "slithered" into a home in Idaho in November of 2022 to fatally stab the four victims. The judge noted that Kohberger's motive may never be known, as the killer has yet to admit his reasoning behind the horrific murders.

"Even if I could force him to speak, which legally I cannot, how could anyone ever be assured that what he speaks is the truth?" Hippler said, adding that Kohberger's "15 minutes of fame" must come to an end.

When asked by the judge if he would like to make a statement, Kohberger replied, "I respectfully decline." One family member of a victim responded from the audience by calling Kohberger a "coward."
