Vauban Books' edition of The Camp of the Saints has surged up Amazon’s bestseller rankings after its listing was restored. In a post on X, Vauban Books wrote, “We have entered the top 100.” Amazon ranking data shown by the publisher places the book at #63 in Books, with category rankings including #1 in Emigration & Immigration Studies, #1 in French Literature (Books), and #1 in Immigration Fiction, alongside a 4.8-star rating from 236 reviews.

It comes after the publisher said on Monday that Amazon had removed and later reinstated parts of the book’s listing, while other formats remained available throughout. In a press release on April 20, 2026, Vauban Books said, “On Friday, April 17th, Amazon US removed the paperback listing for our edition of Jean Raspail’s The Camp of the Saints (at this writing, the book remains available for purchase in Kindle and audiobook formats).”

The statement added, “We have since been informed by Amazon that the book is in violation of the company’s ‘offensive content’ policy,” and said, “Amazon has supplied no information as to which portions of the book are offensive nor to whom.”

Vauban Books said the paperback had been commercially active prior to removal, stating, “Our edition of the book was first listed for sale on Amazon in July 2025,” and added, “In the eight months since, Amazon has sold roughly 20,000 paperback copies of it.”

According to the publisher, the title has also received sustained attention in reviews, noting it “has also been extensively reviewed in the American and international press” and that “its reviewers have been unanimous in their assessment of its abiding importance and relevance to contemporary debates.”

“While we cannot say for certain has taken this extraordinary step, it may be no coincidence that the listing was removed one day after New York Magazine published a critical article on Vice President Vance that referenced the book,” and added, “This echoes a 2019 campaign that targeted Stephen Miller, leading the novel’s previous publisher to drop the title from its catalogue.”

Vauban Books added, “At this writing, the book remains available for purchase in Kindle and audiobook formats,” and said, “Vauban Books remains committed to keeping the novel in print and accessible worldwide.”

The publisher said in a statement on Tuesday, "now, for our major update, a media contact shared a statement from Amazon: 'We’ve resolved an error that briefly affected the availability of a paperback listing of The Camp of the Saints, and the title is now restored.'" The publisher said that Amazon "appears to be in damage control mode," noting that they had previously been told it was removed due to its "offensive content policy."
